Ntoma - In the Heart of Tanzania

tansaniaThe United Republic of Tanzania is a country in central East Africa. The approximate 41 million inhabitants speak over 100 different languages. The official capital of Tanzania has been Dodoma, whereas Dar es Salaam remains the principal commercial city and the de-facto seat of most government institutions. In the north-west of Tanzania is the Serengeti, the most famous National Park of Africa. The landscape is composed of dry and wet savannas, umbrella thorns and baobab trees, surrounded by deserts and shores. The climate is tropical. Mount Kilimanjaro Africa's highest peak is 5.895 meters high and situated in the northeast near the border to Kenya.

ntoma karteTanzania has got a high population growth. The fertility index is 5,3 total live births a woman. Actually 44 percent of the population is under 15 years old. Therefore a further population growth is expected. At the same time the mortality rate is really high because of the wide spread poverty and Aids virus. Tanzania is one of the most affected countries as there are actually more than 4,2 million Aids orphans.

Ntoma is located in the north west of the country on a headland of Lake Victoria in the area of Kanyangereko, southwards the city Bukoba. Ntoma is 35 km away from the border of Uganda in the north and 100 km away to the border of Ruanda in the west. The little spot consists of small accumulations of natives‘ huts spread over on a surface of 30 square kilometers in the bush.
